Candle Stamping & Tutorial

This week on Heart 2 Heart Challenges it is an ABC Challenge - Anything But a Card. I thought it was the perfect time to dust off the candle I had (since November '09, lol), and give Candle Stamping a try. You're not really stamping on the candle...but on tissue paper that you'll melt to the candle. I have a Tutorial to show you how it's done. I was so surprised at how easy it really was, I don't know why I waited so long to give it a try!
.
(After I did the first one, I sent my husband out to buy more candles...lol! Thanks sweetie:))
The candles measure 4" tall...but the stamping area is 3.5". I finished the candles off with Organdy ribbon because I wanted the stamping to be the focus, not the embellishments.
Here's some close-ups of the candles.
The butterfly I stamped onto vellum, coloured it, and cut it out. I attached the body and antenna to the candle, and bent the wings up.
I just noticed, I should have added a rhinestone for an eye on the hummingbird.
I used the tops of the bamboo from Intrinsic Background for the grass that goes around the bottom of the candle.

.
Here's close-ups of the next candle.
Because the image soaks through the tissue paper, you can make mirror images (I show this in the Tutorial below).

Tweaking My Own Cards:)

Yes, can you believe it!! I tweak my own cards. Some were older cards...my style has changed a little, and I have more tools. A couple of them were requested, but the wording changed to suit the occasion. And another I wanted to make a masculine version.

Nestabilities Storage

Wow, 2 posts in 2 days, I'm on a roll, lol! This is a project that has been 'brewing' for about 6 months now. I bought magnetic sheets from Walmart, 2 came in a package and they measure 8.5" x 11". I was planning on cutting them into strips to store my Nesties on...in a CD case. I had seen them stored like this on someone's blog (their name is long forgotten now).
.
Well, I didn't get around to it and ended up storing them in their packaging, in a container.

It actually worked quite well. What I didn't like was that as I added more to my collection, I had more to flip through. And if I wasn't sure what shape I wanted to use, I had 2 or 3 packages sitting on my desk each with a missing piece that I was trying out. (I have a very small work space which was made smaller with schtuff sitting on it.)
.
Then someone posted a magnetic board of sorts, on the CTMH Bulletin Boards and this got my wheels turning. I've been tossing it around for a couple of months now. I wasn't sure how big of an area I wanted, how to cover the magnet, did I want to use a strip of magnet, or a sheet, and what was I going to adhere the magnet to?
.
Finally the idea hit the other day, I could use a picture frame. Then the question was, how big did I want it?
.
I went with a long narrow type, and without the bulky wood. I found them at the thrift store for $0.50 each. See them in all their faded ugliness:)
.
Here's one covered. What I did was cut the magnetic sheet (which has adhesive on one side) to within 1/2" from the frame. This was just so that if I didn't lay the magnet down straight, I could still slide the edge of the frame onto the glass. I attached the magnet directly to the glass.
.
I didn't add any adhesive to the paper, it's held in place by the frame edging. That's so that if I get tired of looking at green, I can switch it out.
Here's many of my Nesties in place. I didn't have enough magnet to cover the second picture frame, so I'm gonna have to wait until we go to the big city again. (No Walmart here in this little town)......Honeeeeeyyyyyy, we're goin' to Winnipeg!
I decided to label them on the back, just in case I forget what I'm using. I see I have to remove the gumminess from the tape that held it in the packaging.
Now it's within reach, easy to find, and remove the Nestie I want!!! I just have to decide how I want to hang it, lol!
.

Sketch Time - Heart 2 Heart Challenge Card

Good day, so last night I sat down and worked on a card for the Heart 2 Heart Challenge. This week it was a Sketch Challenge. Here's my submission.
.
Card Size: 4.25" x 5.5"
.
The colours seem a little off. I think it's because I was lazy and used daylight instead of my light box:) {Edited: I replaced it with the light box one!}
I love the simplicity of the card. I've been using my CTMH Blending Pen alot lately, and I used it again for the petals. I attached the flower with a Foam Square, and turned it slightly so that the petal's underneath also showed.
.
Here's the sketch:

Recipe: CTMH PP-Creative Basic Emporium, CTMH CS-White Daisy & Bamboo, CTMH Ink-Cocoa, Bamboo, Vineyard Berry, Sweet Leaf, Topiary & Sunflower, CTMH SS-Smiles, Martha Stewart Scroll Lace Border Punch, Cuttlebug Swiss Dots EF, Foam Squares, Rhinestones, Ribbon, Blending Pen.
.
Right now, Heart 2 Heart Challenges is also having a Design Team Call, make sure you go check it out!!
.
Enjoy,

And a one, and a two...

Oh where, oh where has my little Deneen gone? Oh where, or where can she be? {smiles}

I am so ready to get back to my desk and start creating! I was enjoying a visit from mom, and {sniff} she's gone home now. But that means my evenings are free to play around with stamps and paper again.

So see ya in a day or two!

Graduation Card...For My Niece

Today, my niece graduated Grade 12, with honours...she had a 95% average, and won many scholarships!!! She plans on becoming a doctor. So, between the ceremony (where the power went off for 1/2 hr. due to the weather) and the party, I thought I would post the card I made for her.
.
Card Size: 4" x 6"
.
I've been checking out the Spellbinders International Guest Designer Yvonne's blog, and have been totally inspired!!!
The verse I typed up on computer, and printed onto Colonial White CS. I sure wish there were more Christian Stamps out there.
.
Recipe: Patterned Paper-My Mind's Eye, So Sophie, CTMH CS-Smokey Plum & Colonial White, CTMH Ink-Bamboo, CTMH SS-Live Inspired, Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink, CTMH Just Blooms-Spring Blossom, Nestabilities-Labels 4, Fleur De Lis, Curved Rectangle, Circles & Floral Accent, Rhinestone, Pearls, Cream Organdy Ribbon

Black with a Pop of Colour - H2H12

I know, I said I'd post my card on Friday...but better late than never! This week on Heart 2 Heart Challenges it was a Colour Challenge. Those challenges are always difficult for me...I have my preferred colours, so don't mess with what works, lol:) I've been pleasantly surprised with the results of being challenged to use colours out of my comfort zone. Just take a look!
.
Card Size: 4.25" x 5.5"
.
I love how the colour 'pops' off the card. I stamped the flowers with 2nd Generation Tulip, and then used my Blending Pen to add the dimension.
.
Recipe: CTMH PP-Sihouette Creative Basics, CTMH CS-Black & Colonial White, CTMH Ink-Buttercup, Tulip & Cocoa, CTMH SS-You Are Beautiful, Copic-W-1, EK Success Wrought Iron Punch, Martha Stewart Scroll Lace Border Punch, Pearls, Cream Grosgrain Ribbon, Rhinestones, Foam Squares, Blending Pen.
.
Don't forget to check out what everyone did with this colour challenge over on Heart 2 Heart.

For the Grad!

My mom needed a Graduation Card...but with just a few requirements....{sigh} moms, ya gotta love them! She would like to see a grad hat, it needs to be feminine, but not floral, use greens and gold, but don't use pink or yellow, and it needed to have the verse Jer. 29:11 on it. Phew, just a few things to keep in mind as I was designing it. Thanks to Connie at The Scrapbook Cottage :), I had a sketch to start with, and the rest came together fairly quickly. Mom hasn't seen it yet, but I hope she likes it.
.
Card Size: 4.25" x 5.5"
.
It's difficult to see, but I lined the scroll lace border with Organdy Ribbon, it has a nice sheen to it, and gives the border a little sparkle.
Recipe: Paper-My Mind's Eye-So Sophie, CTMH PP-Veranda, CTMH CS-Smokey Plum, Juniper, Colonial White & White Daisy, CTMH Ink-Smokey Plum & Black, CTMH SS-Key To My Heart, Elegant Script & Class Of, Pearls, Nestabilities-Labels 4 & Floral Accents, Martha Stewart Scroll Lace Border Punch, Ribbon, Reminisce Stickers, Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
.
For some reason, my watermark wasn't opening, so I quickly typed up one...that's why it's so tiny...hopefully it will be working for next time:)
.
Don't forget to check back on Friday....I should have my card done for Heart 2 Heart Challenges. The challenge just happens to be a colour challenge, Buttercup, Black, and Tulip.
.
Enjoy,
Deneen
