Some More Miscellaneous Cards.

I thought I'd post a few more cards I've done over the past year or so.

This card was inspired by Lydia D. I stamped the sentiment on white CS and cut it out so that there was a bit of a white border. I like how it's glued off-center on a piece of solid CS. This card also uses 2nd Generation Stamping. That means that before you stamp on your CS, you stamp it first on a piece of scrap paper, and then stamp what ink is left on the stamp, onto your CS.
The photo doesn't show the vibrancy of the colour very well, but the textured green CS is nice and bright...CTMH Sweet Leaf CS. Again, I used 2nd Generation Stamping for the flowers and stems. The sentiment is embossed with white embossing powder.
I like the weathered look of this card. I stamped the flower first, then wrinkled the CS, and then highlighted some of the more prominent wrinkles. This stamp set...Cherish...from CTMH uses a two stamp method to achieve the highlighted look of the flower. Here's the same flower, but with a different look. I stipple brushed colour around the flower and stem to soften the look. The sentiment is embossed with gold embossing powder on vellum.
I like the look of the frame around the flower. Again, the sentiment is embossed with gold embossing powder on vellum.
This card actually goes back 3 years. I liked the random stamped background, and then using the same stamp as a focal point.
Here's the same stamp as above, but I used chalk to make it pop. You would first stamp your image with VersaMark, and then go over it with chalk...the VersaMark 'grabs' the colour and makes it stand out. I saw this colour combination in a Papercrafts Magazine. I like the look of the four squares on this card.
Here's a simple card, also one of the older ones I have made. The sentiment is embossed with gold embossing powder on vellum.
Here's a card I copied out of an older CTMH Idea Book.
Well, that's all I have time for tonight.
Enjoy, and thanks for looking.

Notepads

Okay, I have to start paying more attention to where I find some of my ideas I share with you, so that I can give credit where credit is due.
.
I saw notepads like these on a blog somewhere...if it happens to be you, please take the credit.

Here are some that I made.

Here's a quick run-down of how to make them.

I bought these writing tablets at Dollarama. I then took them to Staples, and they cut them in half for me for $1.
(I bought 5 tablets, and ended up with 10 notepads...all for $6)
To find out the length of CS I needed, I measured the length...mine was 9".

And I measured the binding...
plus what I wanted to hang over the front.

I like to make scallops on mine (see tutorial below on how to make scallops with your corner rounder), so I leave some CS on each side, and end.

Before I glue my CS to the pad of paper, I score where the folds will be.
I fold the first score line, and mark where to score the second score line.
Don't forget to cut the cover off the pad of paper.
I like to put the glue on the pad of paper, and then 'wrap' my CS around the corners....rather than putting the glue on the CS.

And that's it! Nice and quick.
Enjoy,
Deneen

How To Make Scallops with a Corner Rounder.

The notepad I'm going to post today, uses scallops made with a corner rounder. I'd like to show you how I made them.

This corner rounder is by Provo Craft.
As you can see, the guard comes off. You'll need to take it off to make scallops.
Punch your first scallop, and then move the corner rounder along the edge of the CS. As you can see in this photo, you want to be able to see just a little bit of a space. Now punch, and move the corner rounder to make another scallop.
That's all there is to it. It's that easy.

One caution...make sure your paper is not in crooked...as in the photo below.

Now go make some scallops!!!

Enjoy,

Deneen

If you don't want to end up with half a scallop on the edge, (notice the white scallop)

Photobucket

I just eyeball the center of the piece I am working with, and punch my first scallop there...and then work outward to each edge. Hope that makes sense.

Pop-up Card Tutorial

I found this template HERE. I made two card versions with the template and thought I'd share how I made them.

Recipe: CTMH CS-White Daisy, Baby Pink & Spring Iris, CTMH Ink-Buttercup, Spring Iris, Blush & Black, Organdy Ribbon, CTMH SS-Friendship Blessings, The Best Way & Cheerful Thoughts, 3D Foam Squares, White Brad, Pencil Crayons, Organdy Ribbon, Decorative Paper Punch.
Recipe: CTMH CS-White Daisy, Indian Corn Blue, Buttercup & Outdoor Denim, CTMH Ink-Outdoor Denim, Indian Corn Blue, Black, Heavenly Blue & Garden Green, CTMH SS-Confetti and Favors & Atomic Upper/Lower Case, Pewter Brads.

Here's my version of the template. I wanted to get 2 cards from one piece of 8 1/2"x 11" CS.
I found when I was adding my pop-up image, that it was coming up off to one side...that's why I've edited the template with the Slot and Tab off-centered.
Another thing I learned the hard way...I had cut out 8 before I realized...the Slot HAS TO BE on the same side as the tabs you'll glue to hold your card together. I found out that the sliding card piece will NOT go down all the way because it will get caught on the bottom tab you've glued.
I enlarged the template so that the measurements were easier to read.

Here's what the card will look like with the Tab piece sticking out...this was an earlier version--before I learned to off-center my Slot and Tab.

Here I've added my Pop-up image. The piece that will cover the image is attached using 3d Foam Squares...just make sure that they will not be in the way of the image...so that it can pop up freely.

And there's how to make a cute Pop-up card.

Hopefully I worked out all the bugs for you...lol. I like to share what I learn works and doesn't work with a template...hopefully it will save you some time and frustration.

Enjoy,

Deneen

Masculine Cards

How many of us have trouble creating masculine cards? I do, because I always seem to want to add ribbon or something for dimension.

Here are a couple of masculine cards I've created. I tried to stay away from the traditional fishing/golfing cards. There's nothing wrong with fishing/golfing, but not everyone fishes or golfs.
.
All cards measure 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".
.
For this card I traced the letter 'H' on CS, and then used a hole punch to punch holes all the way around it. I matted it on paper that would show up nicely through the holes. I free handed the 'happy birthday'.
Recipe: CTMH CS-Outdoor Denim, Ocean & Breeze, pewter brad.
Same card, different colours.

Recipe: CTMH CS-Vineyard Berry, Ocean & Lilac Mist, pewter brad.

I saw a card like this in Paper Crafts Magazine, but I changed the images to make it my own. The lighthouse I stamped in Versamark and then went over it with 3 different colours of chalk. Recipe: CTMH CS-Desert Sand, White Daisy & Vanilla Cream, CTMH SS-Nantucket Retreat, Summer Harvest (squares) & Geometric Thoughts ('enjoy'), CTMH Ink-Desert Sand & Chocolate, Chalk, Natural Hemp.

I saw a card using a layout like this, and again, I changed the colours and image to make it my own. I used the edge of my scissors to get a straight distressed line on the piece of CS running vertically under the image. (This card actually measures 6 1/2" x 5")
Recipe: CTMH CS-Outdoor Denim, White Daisy & Indian Corn Blue, CTMH Ink-Black, Pencil Crayons, Black Brads.

The template for this card I found HERE. (As a side note, I also made a girly version with this template, I'll post it later.)
Recipe: CTMH CS-White Daisy, Indian Corn Blue, Buttercup & Outdoor Denim, CTMH Ink-Outdoor Denim, Indian Corn Blue, Black, Heavenly Blue & Garden Green, CTMH SS-Confetti and Favors & Atomic Upper/Lower Case, Pewter Brads.

For this card, I random stamped (in an orderly fashion...lol) the background. The rest is pretty straight forward. I almost forgot, I actually brayered CTMH Ocean Ink onto CTMH Heavenly Blue CS, to give the card some dimension...it's difficult to see in this photo.
Recipe: CTMH CS-Heavenly Blue, Pansy Purple, Outdoor Denim & White Daisy, CTMH Ink-Black, Ocean, Grey Flannel & Pansy Purple, CTMH SS-Happy Birthday & Birthday Bash (candles), Square Silver Brads.
I hope to get to creating more masculine cards in the near future, so keep checking in to see if I posted some new ones.
Hope these ones inspired you.
Enjoy,
Deneen
