I did one thing different than Haley's instructions...I cut my circles a little bigger than my washers, spread the glue, let them dry, and then trimmed them. It was easier than trying to fit the cut circle onto the washer with glue-y fingers. I trimmed the outside edge with scissors (and then filed them), and the inside circle I used myX-acto knife. Hopefully you've read Haley's instructions, otherwise what I'm saying is all Greek to you, lol:).
Here are my Pendants!!They measure about 1.5" wide, and I bought the thick and the thin washers (I got to the store and stood there for a while trying to decide...thick or thin?) The thicker ones ended up being easier to work with, so I went and bought some more.
Aren't they the sweetest thing you've seen? I see that they've been around for a while, but I didn't get the memo, lol:( So I'm really enjoying them now.
.
The decisions one has to make. It sort of like the candles I made...so many ideas, so few washers:) First one has to decide what papers to use, then there's how to go about decorating them. And then...how to go about finishing them off to go around your neck. I need to do a little research on jewellery making so that I can finish them off nicely. For now, they will be tied around the neck...I did finish the ends with Liquid Glass, or a match to melt it, so that it won't fray.
.
Here's some more to enjoy! Haley!!! Look what you started, lol.
.
.
I also thought they'd be great as keychains! So here were 2 I did.
.
Again, a big thank-you to Haley for sharing her instructions and for the inspiration! If you have any questions on how I made mine, feel free to ask!
.
{Edited to add the following}I have added a short Tutorial on how I add a 'clasp' to the Pendants, just click HERE.
.
Bobie asked me how I tied off the keychain. I thought I would try in words...but a PICTURE is worth a thousand words, so here's a picture of how I knotted the pendants, and how I tied the keychain. Hopefully it's helpful! Thanks for asking Bobie.
I should mention that for the keychain, I finished it off with a regular knot that I applied Liquid Glass to, to keep it from opening. I'm researching a slip knot for the Pendant Necklaces (to make them adjustable!)
Enjoy,
Deneen
These are BEAUTIFUL!! I can hardly wait to try this out...I might even do a workshop to show my customers how to make them too! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThese are super cute! I can't wait to try these! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOMG! Yours are very fancy!!! Love the key chains. How did you finish the ends of the string? Got to make a key chain now too! This is getting out of control very quickly!:)
ReplyDeleteAwesome - these are o my craft to do list tight up with the dominoes and bottle caps
ReplyDeleteOMG Deneen, yours are GORGEOUS!!!!!! I love the ribbon, the beads, oh my! These are so addicting and I can't wait to make some more. Now you've inspired me!
ReplyDeleteThese are really beautiful, Deneen. Did you do anything to the backs of the washers?
ReplyDeleteWOW these are too cute!!! I may need to try this =}
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteNo I didn't do anything to the back. I did turn the washers so that the smooth side is on the skin (covered the rougher side). I have been wondering if there is something I could do on the back, but because it will get a lot of wear-and-tear sitting on the skin I haven't figured it out yet, lol!
HTH,
Deneen
Deneen, I love them and have wanted to try it forever!!! I was wondering did you put a clasp on yours?? That is what i am having a problem with. I have never done anything with jewelry so I am at a loss!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle
I just had to say that your art is so wonderful! I appreciate the great tutorials too. The step-by-step photos sure help us visual learners!
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing! I saw them on the CTMH BB, and had to come over to read more & tell you how beautiful they are! Some look like very expensive pieces of jewelry. I can totally see making these for my nieces, a whole wardrobe of them...better yet, inviting them over for a day to PLAY with my scraps! They'd have a blast.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips on the keychains - great idea!
Just a thought about the backs.....why not decorate the other side? Then your pendant can be reversible .
ReplyDeleteRegarding the back of the pendant, why not just cover it as well. Then the pendant can be reversible. These are lovely, by the way!
ReplyDeleteWhat did you cover the washers with?
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful! I can't wait to go buy some washers and get started! Thanks to you & Haley!
ReplyDeleteI have made a couple of these already, but I love your 'finishing' options--especially the ribbon necklaces. I have put the same paper on both sides, because they flip over so easily when you are wearing them. I also found washers with the same size hole as a standard hole punch, so I always get perfect inner circles.
ReplyDeleteSaw this via Pinterest and love, love, love it! Your addition of beads and different ribbon necklaces, etc. is just the right touch!
ReplyDeleteThese are so nice! Love the addition of the beads and ribbons. It's the perfect touch!
ReplyDeleteI would like to know about the Liquid Glass, that you use. Where can you buy the Liquid Glass?
ReplyDeleteLove this tutorial and the necklaces and want to try it.
Beautiful!
Hi Diana, Liquid Glass is sold by Close To My Heart. Glossy Accents by Inkssentials is another brand, you can find it in most Scrapbooking Stores.
ReplyDeleteThanks for asking,
Deneen
These are beautiful, I will have to try this now!
ReplyDeleteJanice
I cover the back of mine with felt! It feels good against my neck. I've been making these for years.
ReplyDeletelove it! cant wait to try!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. I found it through pinterest. I am making these for the first time. However I am having a problem with the glossy accents drying. How long should it take to dry? Any tips you have regarding this would be appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI still don't understand how you tied the key chain to the pendant. Would you please give a liitle more detail. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this idea! I would love to try these, what stamp did you use for the first one? I love the design and the color of this one.
ReplyDeleteWhere can I purchase the washers? The large ones?
ReplyDeleteHi Bridget, I found the washers at the local hardware store, they come in lots of different sizes. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! I will be makig these soon! :)
ReplyDeleteI made a few of these and they are fun to make. Sometimes I get impatient and play with it before the liquid glass is dry...so patience is important here! I made mine reversible as well. I used scrap-booking paper. There are so many possibilities but I'd like to try decoupaging before adding the liquid glass to create something different. Adding little gems gives a fun extra touch.
ReplyDeleteI have a question for those of you who have made these. How do you finish off the edges? The sides of the washer...well the bigger ones anyway still show silver.
I bought a hole punch to make a 3/4 in hole for the middle but, dang, I must's got the wrong kind because I can't get the hole far enough from the edge to hit the midpoint so it's not useful for this purpose. So...about those edges? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
How did you finish off the edges? The larger washers still show silver on mine. I'd like more of a finished look all around. I did the backs too..makes it reversible. Very fun project.
ReplyDeleteOh, and what did you use to cover the washers? Scrapbook paper? There are so many options with scrapbook paper - did you have more success with any other type of covering? Any suggestions appreciated!
Thanks for commenting. I used narrow washers so there wasn't much of an edge to worry about covering. I'll have to think on that one a bit. I covered the washers with scrapbook paper, I haven't tried anything else. As long as it is covered with the liquid glass, anything would work, ie. yarn, burlap etc. Thanks again for asking.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful. A couple of questions.
ReplyDeleteDo you cut the middle circle out before you glue it together or after?
How do you cover the sides of it?
Hi Erin, thanks so much for the comments! I do cut the middle circle out first but a little smaller than the hole and then I trim/file it to match the hole size. I didn't cover the sides, I left them as is...the silver shows. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing such a valuable post. Your post help me a lot to explore Pendants for necklaces . Keep sharing such stuff in future..
ReplyDeleteMahalo from Hawaii for such a wonderful share. I made these with some Hawaiian Vintage Fabric pictures I found in an old magazine. They came out fantastic. Notate Bene, these make wonderful Christmas Stocking gifts, just saying.......
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to see an article dedicated to this important topic. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteReal Orchid Pendant
I love your ideas regarding washers and feel very inspired now I've read all the comments too. I've been having a go at my own designs already using alcohol inks which have been successful but I am always left with the problem of the back and sides as I want to produce something really professional looking. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous. Can you share the instructions? I've made jewelry but love this idea
ReplyDeleteWhen you made the beautiful washer pendants, did you put the jewels on before or after the liquid glass?I have
